Starting in late January, Catherine Wilson Horne will take the helm as the new president & CEO of Discovery Place, Inc.

Catherine is currently the CEO of EdVenture, a nationally-recognized children's museum in Columbia, S.C., a position she has held for nearly 17 years.

"After an extensive and thoughtful national search, we are delighted to have found a new leader who has the right mix of vision, passion, imagination and knowledge to lead Discovery Place, Inc. into the future," said Chris Perri, Board Chair, Discovery Place, Inc.

Over the last three decades, Catherine has worked exclusively in the museum, non-profit and higher education sectors. Her experience includes raising more than $50 million dollars for educational programs, exhibits and museum facilities, marketing and branding of new institutions, board development, budget and scenario planning, strategic planning and organizational capacity/growth strategies.

At EdVenture she led the rapid and successful growth of a new museum that seeks to redefine the educational impact of a museum on its community. With a focus on science and early childhood education, EdVenture was honored with the 2011 National Medal for Museum Service, the highest national award given to museums.

Catherine was named a 2009 Fellow of the Noyce Leadership Institute, and she has been an active leader in the museum field, including service on the boards of the South Carolina Federation of Museums (past president), Southeastern Museums Conference and currently the Association of Children's Museums. In addition, she has been a Museum Assessment Program and Accreditation reviewer for the American Alliance of Museums.
