Embark on sustainability journey with us at Discovery Place Science

Learn how to be sustainable and why its important

Discovery Place Science is kicking off 2020 by taking a months-long sustainability journey and you’re invited to come along. Get started with us in January and February as we explore all sorts of aspects of sustainability throughout the Museum.

During the first half of the year, you can visit our Explore More Life lab every day of the week to learn more about what characterizes a sustainable community and the science behind assessing it. In this lab, guests can explore green energy alternatives and food waste in the lab with our Potato Clock experiment where we power a clock through spontaneous ion transfer – and a potato!

Every day in February in our Explore More Collections lab, we’ll be celebrating International Polar Bear Day by learning more about these amazing creatures and one of their greatest threats – sea ice loss. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to get up close to a polar bear skull and learn about climate challenges facing our cold-weather friends.

Things will get extreme on Saturday, February 8, when our newest traveling exhibition, Antarctic Dinosaurs, opens. The exhibition focuses on the unearthing of dinosaur fossils in Antarctica and the continent’s drastic shift in environment over time.

Our accompanying IMAX® film, Dinosaurs of Antarcticawill also debut on February 8. That same day, we’ll dive into the topic of water as our most non-renewable resource with our special Sustainability Saturday event.

The fun won’t end when February ends, either. We’ve got lots more sustainability sessions scheduled through June. Click here for a full schedule of events.
