Discovery Place Science
Join us May 21 at Camp North End as we kick off our Think & Drink speaker series
Whether it’s a song in your Spotify playlist, the score in the latest Avengers film, or the sounds in your podcast feed, music strikes a chord in our lives in big and small ways. But how does a certain song evoke so much emotion? Why are certain artists, songs or sounds more popular over others? What is the science of sound?
Joni Deutsch (award-winning Podcast Manager and host of the Amplifier podcast for WFAE – Charlotte’s NPR News Source) kicks off our Think & Drink series with an exclusive music listening session before tackling the big question: why do we love certain songs, hate certain sounds, and have certain audio on repeat?
The evening will also feature bites from Fresh Med and beverages from the Noda Canteen, along with hands-on science elements that you won’t want to miss.
Come early, grab a drink, add to the community playlist, play a fruit instrument (yes, you read that correctly) and mingle in the courtyard before we dive into the science of sound.
Joni Deutsch is on-demand content and audience engagement manager for WFAE, overseeing WFAE’s podcasts including FAQ City, She Says, and SouthBound. Locally and nationally recognized for her podcast and public radio work, Joni also acts as host of WFAE’s Amplifier, recently honored by The Webbys (called “The Internet’s Highest Honor” by the New York Times) and named 2019’s “Best Podcast” by Charlotte Magazine.
