Learn about inheritance patterns, DNA function, and more as a "DNA Detective."
Workshop attendees will extract DNA from a strawberry, learn about a few of their genetic traits, and compare actual DNA gel electrophoresis results to unravel the mystery of their genes!
About the Experience:
DNA Detective lab duration is 50 minutes.
This lab is suitable for participants ages 10 & older.
The Explore More Series provides opportunities for guests to dive deeper into science. Our knowledgeable facilitators or special guest presenters lead these guided experiences. Programming and lab location will vary every weekend (explore all labs on the Events page).
In Discovery Place labs, there is something here for everyone, and we can’t wait to see you!
Ticket Information:
- Tickets to Explore More Labs are an upcharge experience in addition to Museum admission. Tickets may be purchased in advance with Museum admission or upon arrival at the Museum.
- All lab attendees must purchase a ticket. A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 14.
- Please note space is limited, and day-of tickets may not be available. Explore More Series tickets are non-refundable.

Discovery Place Science is located in the heart of uptown Charlotte and is accessible by car, train or foot. Discovery Place Science Parking Deck is located at the corner of Church and 6th St. in Uptown Charlotte.
