From crops to cuisine, explore the flavor of Cuba

Enjoy a night out at the Museum and experience the amazing food and biodiversity of Cuba. Featuring the premiere screening of CUBA in IMAX, dinner and conversation with Fernando Bretos, Director, CariMar.

The evening begins with cocktails and a gourmet Cuban feast including the national dish of Cuba ropa vieja, lechon, papa rellenos, fish escabeche, croquetas de jamon and Cuban sandwiches. While you roam the food stations and enjoy a food demonstration, get an inside look into sustainable farming and ocean conservation through curated hands-on experiences.

Following dinner, a screening of CUBA shares the powerful story of a land preserved in time, yet poised on the cusp of dramatic change. Through the eyes of Cuban artists, historians and scientists, the film provides an intimate look this vivacious island nation.

Conservation scientist Fernando Bretos, whose work is featured in the film, will host a Q&A at the conclusion of the screening.

About Fernando Bretos

Fernando is a conservation scientist who studies marine migratory species and coastal and marine habitats throughout the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. As Director of the Caribbean Marine Science and Conservation Program (CariMar) he engages the countries of the Western Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico to work collaboratively to address threats encompassing the region including climate change and overfishing and work together to protected shared coastal and marine resources. In 2007 he founded the Trinational Initiative for Marine Science and Conservation in the Gulf of Mexico and Western Caribbean with a goal to bring scientists and governments from the US, Mexico and Cuba to transcend politics and maritime boundaries in achieving joint conservation goals.

Cash/credit bars featuring beer, wine and liquor. Parking fee for Discovery Place Science Parking Deck is not included

Parking can be found in the Discovery Place Science parking garage off 6th street. Guests will exit the deck to the left, cross Church Street and enter the Museum at the 6th street entrance.
